The Challenge

The homeowners had an incredible property, but much of its outdoor potential remained unused. The home featured three elevated balconies overlooking a heavily wooded backyard, creating a significant elevation change between the house and the landscape below.

While the views were beautiful, the outdoor spaces felt disconnected. The homeowners envisioned an environment where family and guests could move naturally from the home to multiple outdoor entertaining areas while taking advantage of the property's natural setting.

Our Approach

Rather than treating the backyard as a single patio project, our design team developed a comprehensive outdoor living plan that embraced the property's elevation changes.

Using a series of engineered retaining walls, structural columns, and carefully planned terraces, we created distinct outdoor living zones. The upper balconies became connected gathering spaces overlooking an expansive lower entertainment area complete with a swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, generous paver patios, and professionally designed landscaping.

At the front of the home, we refreshed the landscape with architectural plantings that complement the home's stately brick façade, creating a cohesive experience from curb to backyard.

The Solution

Today, the property functions as a seamless extension of the home.

Guests can transition from the upper balconies to multiple entertaining levels below, where spacious patios, retaining walls, an outdoor kitchen, and a custom pool create a destination for relaxing and entertaining. Throughout the project, premium plantings soften the hardscape while preserving views of the surrounding woods.

The result is a luxury outdoor environment that feels as though it was always meant to be part of the home.
